Each time I categorize my new submissions, I sigh seeing that I only seem to be adding more and more to the fan art pile. It kinda seems pointless having an "originals" folder at the rate that I'm contributing to that area. I've actually introduced myself to a friend as a fan artist for the first time this year--it was kinda horrifying admitting it to myself.
But you know what, nothing relieves my stress more than just doodling characters from other sources. I do like that people can recognize them, and thereby connect with them in a way that can't be done with original subjects, and I also think there's a huge fun in placing characters outside of their contexts. Hence the enormous popularity with fanfic (which I admit I have immersed myself in all throughout elementary to high school. I actually have like 2000+ pages of an illustrated Harry Potter comic that I will never ever dare to share with anyone). Right now, art isn't my focus but a wonderful diversion so I do whatever makes me feel better, and if all that comes out of it are bitter Snapes and disgruntled vikings, then that's that.
However, I do want to expand my capacities soon. I feel something coming on and I've got ideas swirling in my head like memories in a pensieve. Perhaps this winter, during which I intend to draw my mind out, I'll try out some new stuff.
Anyway, just thought I'd share that. That may have sounded like an elaborate excuse of why I can only produce fan art.
(It was.)

But it is difficult to explain to people who aren't on dA or anything. It can be super embarrassing, and in fact I don't share fanart outside of dA. It's kind of silly how awkward I feel about it, but for some reason it's not acceptable?
I think fanart is a great way to motivate yourself to practice and improve techniques, so really there should be no shame! But I understand you can't help but feel uncomfortable about it...
Anyway that was long, but I always LOVE seeing your art and I am glad if it makes you happy to make it!
And if you still gonna do some fan art I wouldnt mind some Inception. I just discovered that movie and I'm upsessed with it.
I love the fan art. There's nothing wrong with making a billion Inception and Harry Potter fan arts!
